Brooke & Rob met me in East Grand Rapids last month so we could do their engagement photos before they tie the big knot in August! The weather was perfect, and it was a lot of fun showing them around the lake! Rob proposed to Brooke in England, where Rob is from, so including their passports was definitely a must! We wrapped things up with ice cream and it couldn't have been more perfect!
Brooke and Rob, thank you so much for a great session! I'm so excited for you both and can't wait for you to start this new chapter!
We did a mini session back in March to celebrate his 18 month marker!Read More
In November, Taylor and Neil will be tying the knot and I am so excited for them! Started their engagement at Lyon Street Cafe for caffeine and took the second half to Provin Trails!Read More
At the end of October, I met up with the Lillibridge's to not only do Spencer's pictures but to do some photos and a video announcing their 3rd and final pregnancy!
Back in July, I had the pleasure of hanging out with the Parsons on Presque Isle and the beach for a summer session! The Parsons are a family of 6, 8 if you count their dogs. Their lives are filled with the best kind of chaos imaginable, humor and lots and lots of love. From left to right you have Ava, the oldest, Cole, the youngest, Amanda, Jonah, second youngest, Noah, second oldest, and JR.Read More
Michelle & Jonathan got married in DeWitt, Michigan surrounded by family and friends with a ceremony and reception outside. The location that they were fortunate enough to use for their wedding was incredible and the weather couldn't have been more perfect, either. Who doesn't love a gigantic red barn for a backdrop for a ceremony as well as a tented reception?! Their day was gorgeous, perfect, and filled with some of the most personal details imaginable.Read More
Since it's summer time we went over to Reeds Lake back in June for a little stroll around the lake. Naturally, it was one of the hottest days of the summer. Even at 7pm it was conspiring against us so we got a good sweat, but I think it was worth it!Read More
It's always a blast photographing Graham because he just keeps getting cuter and cuter! We did a mini session at his Meemaw's house Easter weekend and had a blast! He was cracking up, doing superman poses and touching his toes! Be sure to check out his newborn and his 3 month sessions to see how much he's grown if you haven't already!
Gabe hit his 9 month mark back in December and I'm happy to report that he is still this smiley, happy, little dude!Read More
Before I dive into all the adorable photos from this session, I want to go back and do a recap of Graham's newborn session.
This is Graham brand new:
Now, this is Graham at 3 months.
Right!? He's the cutest, chunkiest monkey in the world. I love covering all the stages of babies through their first year but I'm especially excited to see this boy grow. I mean this is him at 3 MONTHS! He's a totally different baby. It's beautiful. So I'm going to keep it short and sweet but if you want to go back down memory lane of this dude at the beginning, click hurr
He was feelin' silly when he woke up from his nap
I've discovered that strands of lights + babies makes me feel awkward. THANK GOODNESS he was loving it, not sure why but he was. #BLESSED
Who doesn't love wrinkly baby feet?!
One of our favorite spots in Grand Rapids is Aman Park. We love a good walk in the woods and when we wanted to find a new spot to check out, this one popped up on google maps! In the fall time, there's nothing like a good hike in the woods, so many beautiful colors and fresh crisp air. We took our first hike when fall was just beginning and for the next couple weeks following we took hikes there to see the changes in color in the woods.
When Liz came to me asking if we could do a fall session, Aman Park was the first spot that popped into my head that would make for a great spot to do fall photos! She took my lead on this location idea and I'm so glad! We not only got some great photos but Spencer seemed to enjoy it a lot and we got a nice little hike in as well!
I tried to teach Spencer how to throw leaves in the air and his excitement was too much that it completely back fired the first time.. haha
I honestly just told them to embrace and as you can see Ryan took the lead on what that meant... haha
He definitely nailed it the second time we tried!
I'm just gonna take a guess here.. and maybe I'm wrong but I THINK Spencer gets his goofiness from his dad.. haha
Despite what could've happened to my lens to get this photo, I love this one of Spencer. As I was trying to get a close photo of him he was approaching my lens with the a stick and as he tried I would say "Please don't do that, Spencer" and his response was "Don't say donnn'ttttt" as he would try again. hahaha. Love that kid! :)
Back in August Geoff, myself and our good friend Matt Schmelling (hey Matt!) did a promo shoot for Two 9 Two Media and Andrea & Jason were our models! It worked out perfectly because they are actually engaged and were in need of some photos SO it was just a match made in heaven! I can't speak for Andrea and Jason but we had a blast photographing them and we are so so grateful that they were able and willing to do this shoot with us!
We started off in downtown Grand Rapids, which happened to be the day when food fest was going on but we managed to find some spots that were low key and quiet!
Before we dive into this, a warning... the camera LOVES Andrea. And Jason and Andrea make each other smile and laugh so much, it'll make your heart melt.
After downtown we headed to Grand Haven! With lots of great wooded trails and beautiful beaches, it was the perfect place to take the next half of the shoot! Andrea and Jason had one request for this shoot and it was to have their adorable dog, Stella featured and as dog owners ourselves, we definitely did not say no to that request! Stella is as sweet in person as she is in these photos, and she sits so well! We're jealous..
We had them work on some dancing because not only does it make for adorable photos but depending on how long it's been, it can be pretty funny. ;)
^ this photo is probably one of my favorites. The way Jason is grinning at Andrea while she looks over at the camera is just so sweet. It shows how much he truly adores her.
Last stop! The Grand Haven beach! Andrea. You are truly so stunning. I just cannot get over the photos I got of you. You glow in front of the camera! And Jason, you're a stunner. You rock serious on a whole new level that I've never seen before! ;)
To wrap it up, we handed this lovely couple a bottle of champagne to enjoy and celebrate being engaged!
^^ This is one of my other favorites. While Jason went to go grab his fiancee a blanket because it was getting chilly outside, a flock of seagulls flew behind Andrea and I honestly don't think I've grabbed my camera any faster off my hip. Worth it! :)
Andrea & Jason, thank you. Thank you for going with our crazy plans for this shoot and trekking in the woods, breaking out the heels downtown and everything else in between! We really hope you enjoyed yourselves and love what we're going to put together for you! You two are an amazing example of what love looks like and how to have fun in front of the camera together. It truly was a blast and an honor! We hope your wedding planning is going smoothly! :)
Geoff + Julie
Amber & Mike got married back in December with a very small, intimate ceremony, so in August they had a big party to have their friends and family gather to celebrate! They had their reception at Mike's grandparent's house in Grandville and it was pretty awesome. They have a kickass backyard with a pool and legit bar set up! What could be more laid back and fun than that? Yeah, it was a blast but I think some of it has to be credited to their hilariously fun bridal party! Needless to say, they had a lot of fun and I had way too much fun photographing them!
Thank you Amber & Mike for letting me document a really wonderful celebration, you are surrounded by some truly wonderful friends and family and I have to say, I'm jealous! I wish you two all the best and I know the continue journey as parents and husband and wife will be nothing short of amazing!
Uncles are just naturally crazy. Kids will figure it out one day... haha
Graham Alan Kartes was welcomed into this world September 17th and he is just growing into this snuggly bundle of love! I cannot wait to do his 3 month session to just compare how much he's grown and filled out! Being able to see Graham the day he was born was such a joy, and we took the great opportunity to document that first day!
We're teaming up with Madison and Trevor to do a year long project with Graham, in the hopes to provide the service to other couples! We're SO incredibly excited about the project and we cannot wait to get to the one year so we can put everything we've documented together for them! Here's a sneak peak if you haven't seen it already of Graham's first day on this earth, surrounded by some of his aunts and uncles, Mom and Dad!
Since we're now conveniently located in Grand Rapid's we were able to fit in a newborn session with Graham as well as do Liv's 2 year photos just a week after his birth. Madison always has awesome ideas for shoots and I love it every time! She brings awesome props, shows me adorable pins she has, and gets her family's outfits perfectly coordinated. If anyone needs tips, ideas, or suggestions for shoots, talk to Madison! I personally think she should be a stylized shoot coordinator (if that exists) because she'd rock it!
For this shoot Madison wanted to go to an apple orchard and she brought along plenty of blankets, bought a bag of apples at the orchard not only for snacks for Liv but for the shoot, a wooden crate box, and an adorable chair. Madison's ideas are amazing, but I have to say she puts Trevor to work on these shoots because he's usually the one hauling all of it! haha Props to Trevor (no pun intended, seriously) for all your efforts and hauling Madison's visions that morning, we always appreciate it! :)
While Madison was getting apples and Trevor was loading up the wagon with the props, I took Liv over to the apple orchard to show her the apples and do some exploring. It worked out perfectly!
Remember when I said Madison coordinates outfits perfectly. Yeah, look at how adorable Liv's outfit is. Bow, boots, and all! So cute!
So funny little story about this photo. As soon as Madison showed up, Liv ran over to her in fear like I was the photo monster. I think she just got sick of me photographing her so much and was relieved her mom came to the rescue ;). Needless to say, these photos are completely candid and I think they are my favorite from this session because there was no posing involved and just shows how much love this peanut has for her parents and vis versa!
And this. Shortly after loving on Mom, Dad came into vision and this girl hauled her little butt as far as she could over to him. It was nothing short of adorable. Girl loves her daddy!
Livvy needed a snack break during the shoot :)
So while we were doing Mom and Dad with Graham, we let Liv just hang out in the wagon and when we were done, I turn around and this girl is just having the time of her life. This photo just cracks me up.
After the apple orchard we went back to their house to do some more newborn photos. I couldn't resist photographing Graham's room. This room goes to show how amazing Madison really is at designing and decorating! Just look how pinterest worthy this room is! So adorable. They did a sort of outdoor- hunting theme because Madison's family as well as Trevor's are big into hunting. Growing up for them both, it was always a big activity.
The little touches in this room are so personal, and I love it. The turtle shell was found by Madison's dad, the picture is of Trevor's moms' dad and the deer antlers are from Trevor's first buck!
Another one of my absolute favorite shots! Madison's hand is holding Graham's head and Trevor's hand is on Liv's shoulder. A completely candid shot and it is just is so beautiful. This photo (for me) gives so much sense of support, connect, love, and what it means to be a family.
Their oh so talented Memaw (grandma) knitted this adorable football hat and sack. He was so comfy and cozy.. for like 2 seconds before he started crying.
We got his room nice and toasty warm for this last part of the shoot, and he did not whine once for these last poses! :)
As always, thank you Trevor & Madison for a great day of photographing! Your family is growing in the most beautiful way imaginable, and I'm so excited to continue to be apart of the process! It truly is and always will be an honor.
